Ranked Premier grand cru classe (A) in 2012 in the Classification of Saint-Emilion wine. The winery is located on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in the commune of Saint-Emilion in the department Gironde.
Known as Château L'Angelus or simply L' Angelus till 1990, the name refers to the three Angelus bells audible from the vineyards, coming from the chapel at Mazerat, the church in Saint-Martin de Mazerat and Saint-Emilion. The estate has been classified as Permier grand cru cru classe (A) since 2012, was previously a Premier grand cru classe (B) since 1996 and was before that classified as Grand cru Classe; since 2 years Château Angelus has quit the Classification system. Highly rated by critics Château Angelus is a producing sumptuous long-lived Merlot-Cabernet Franc wine.
